The  SUNA Story

For over seventy years the Suna family has been creating the very finest jewelry for a discriminating, worldwide clientele. The SUNA story began in Europe where the company’s founder, Kenneth Suna, a second-generation jeweler, received his training as a diamond setter, bench jeweler and gemologist. He appreciated and cherished the quality set forth by the masters under whom he trained. He became an expert at working in platinum and in evaluating the quality and characteristics of fine gems. Kenneth’s knowledge of jewels and jewelry coupled with his strong foresight and business acumen were the foundation of Suna Bros.

Today, SUNA remains a family business that lives up to the high standards set forth by Kenneth Suna. Quality, rigorous standards and family pride continue to drive the company to the top of the list of fine jewelry manufacturers. With offices and manufacturing facilities in New York the company is proud to promote their jewelry as: Made in the USA.

SUNA has won many distinguished awards, not only for design, but also for their contributions to the industry.

The techniques used to produce SUNA’s outstanding collections combine “Old World” methods and state of the art techniques.

All SUNA jewelry evolves from a concept. It is from there that a piece is born:

Designers call upon their creative genius to transform verbal ideas and mental images into a pencil sketch

After designs are decided upon, a final color rendering is completed. At this point, technical drawings are usually done to show all side elevations and any fine details.

The model maker constructs a three-dimensional piece, in either wax or metal, from the visual rendering and from his communication with the designer. This is perhaps the most important step, for it is here that the design is brought to life.  Many SUNA designs are modeled in wax to achieve the right texture and modulation. Before a permanent model is made for the item, the wax is analyzed to see if any changes or improvements are needed. (picture of a wax)

The finished waxes are cast in silver and cleaned. This silver becomes the permanent model that is transformed into a rubber mold and then eventually cast in either platinum or eighteen-karat yellow gold.

Meanwhile a team of highly skilled gemologists selects the individual stone or stones that will adorn the piece. Each stone is matched for color, clarity and cut to create optimum uniformity and beauty. The selected stones will be set using a variety of techniques and the exact weights will be documented.

The item is now ready to receive its own unique serial number. This number is stamped directly on the piece. It serves as a permanent record as to when the item was made, who created the model, who set the piece and the exact quantity and weight of the stones. The serial number along with the SUNA trademark (SBI, SB or SUNA) is found on every item we manufacture.

The item is polished to its full brilliance and is inspected by our highly skilled quality and assurance technicians.

It is shipped to an authorized SUNA dealer to be displayed and sold.
